HOPEWELL, N.Y. — A Finger Lakes woman has been arrested by New York State Police for trying to depart a Walmart store in Hopewell (Ontario County) with more than $100 in groceries without paying.
On Wednesday, at 5:19 p.m., state troopers in Canandaigua responded to the Walmart in Hopewell for a report of a petit larceny. Store security witnessed Breanna Reed as she loaded a shopping cart with merchandise worth over $100 of various grocery items. She is accused of passing all points of sale with the shopping cart, making no attempt to pay for the merchandise, according to a State Police news release issued Thursday.
After being stopped by Walmart security, Reed refused to remain at the store but provided her name and address. Troopers then went to Reed’s home in Farmington, also in Ontario County, and arrested her for petit larceny. Troopers transported Reed to the State Police station in Canandaigua for processing. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Hopewell Town Court on a later date this month.
