SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Five Star Occ Med, a division of Five Star Urgent Care, announced it has acquired Syracuse–based Industrial Medical Associates (IMA), an occupational medical-services company.
The acquisition closed at the end of 2015, the company said in an email response to a BJNN inquiry.
Five Star Occ Med is short for Five Star Occupational Medicine. IMA is “the largest provider of occupational-health services in the Syracuse area,” according to a Five Star news release.
Five Star didn’t release any terms of the acquisition.
“We are excited to welcome such a respected occupational-medicine provider that brings decades of proven industry expertise and strong community roots into the Five Star family,” Dr. John Radford, founder and CEO of Five Star Occ Med, said in the release.
Prior to the acquisition, Five Star Occ Med provided occupational-medicine services in its six urgent-care facilities located throughout Western and Central New York. Five Star will continue to keep current IMA locations open for occupational-medicine services.
With the acquisition, Five Star adds 38 people to its employee count, the company said in its email response. It retained all but five positions at IMA.
IMA has served Central New York businesses, industries and municipalities for more than 30 years.
IMA currently operates in three offices located at 961 Canal St. and 222 Teall Ave. in Syracuse, and 151 Lawrence Road E. in the town of Salina.
The company offers occupational-medicine services that include pre-employment physicals, return-to-work screenings, drug and alcohol testing, physical therapy, and hearing conservation.
“With the new facilities, we are able to provide an unprecedented range of efficiency and increased access to our customers while continuing to assist clients in keeping their employees safe, healthy and updated on the latest OSHA and DOT standards,” said Radford.
OSHA is short for Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the primary federal agency that enforces health and safety legislation. DOT refers to the New York State Department of Transportation.
