FLY CREEK, N.Y. — Readers of USA TODAY named the Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard the best cidery in the United States in the newspaper’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, the cider mill announced.
The awards recognize the best in travel, entertainment, and lifestyle. Fly Creek, located near Cooperstown in Otsego County, was among 20 cideries nominated nationwide, with readers invited to vote for their favorite during a four-week period.
“The USA TODAY network is one of the largest and most influential local-to-national publishing organizations in the country, and we are beyond excited to be recognized as America’s number one cidery for 2024,” Fly Creek Cider Mill Owner Bill Michaels said in the release. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our incredible staff, who ensure every visitor has an exceptional experience. We are deeply grateful to our loyal fans and visitors who supported us with their votes.”
The agritourism destination combines history, tradition, and cider making, where guests can watch the 1880 water-powered, water-hydraulic press produce 20,000 gallons of cider each fall.
Since 2002, Fly Creek has offered hard ciders and apple wines and recently created a new tasting room to serve tasting flights and ciders by the glass.
Fly Creek is a member of the New York State Cider Association and the New York State Apple Association.
The mill kicks off its 2024 pressing season on Sept. 12. The business, located at 288 Goose St. in Fly Creek, is open daily from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. through December.
