F.O.C.U.S. elects Rood and Weiss to board of directors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Amy Rood and Barry Weiss have been elected to the board of directors of F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse.

Rood is a lifelong resident of Syracuse with a “passion for promoting Central New York,” F.O.C.U.S. said in a news release. In addition to her volunteer work with F.O.C.U.S., she is president and committee chair of the Eastwood Neighborhood Association and serves on the planning committee of Philanthropic Foodies.

Professionally, Rood is a communications specialist at Honeywell (Brown & Sanford Consulting) and manages the company’s Onondaga Lake Visitors Center. She previously worked at Syracuse University’s David B. Falk College and as an events coordinator at National Grid. Rood has a master’s degree in public relations from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and graduated from Leadership Greater Syracuse (LGS) civic-training program in 2014.

Weiss has been administrative officer for the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office since 1992 and oversees budget, personnel, and media relations for the office, among other duties, according to the release.

Weiss was born in New York City and is a graduate of Syracuse University with a master’s degree in public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

As Onondaga County STOP DWI coordinator, he is responsible for developing a program that coordinates efforts of all law-enforcement agencies in Onondaga County to reduce alcohol-related crashes.

A 1995 graduate of LGS, Weiss has served on a number of not-for-profit boards in Onondaga County. He is VP of the board of McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy and a member of the Morrisville State College Business Advisory Council.
