Following storm renovations, Binghamton hotel reopens as DoubleTree by Hilton

BINGHAMTON — DoubleTree by Hilton today announced the opening of the DoubleTree by Hilton Binghamton, formerly known as the Riverwalk Hotel and Conference Center.

The opening and the new hotel branding follow “significant damage” from Tropical Storm Lee on the property in 2011, according to a news release from DoubleTree by Hilton.

The damage led to a two-year, multi-million dollar renovation that transformed the property into an “upscale,” full-service hotel. The Rye, N.Y.–based Alfred Weissman Real Estate, Inc. owns the hotel, and the Newport Hospitality Group, headquartered in Williamsburg, Va., operates it, according to DoubleTree by Hilton.

The 207-room hotel offers 32,000 square feet of conference space including a courtyard and an outdoor-garden terrace.

The meeting space can allow for up to 17 breakout rooms, and includes an amphitheater-style lecture room that can accommodate up to 50 guests, according to the hotel chain.

“The fact that DoubleTree by Hilton wants to be a part of the city sends a “very strong message” about the resurgence of downtown Binghamton, Bud Nolan, general manager for DoubleTree by Hilton Binghamton, said in the news release.

Guests will also have access to the hotel’s 24-hour business center, and its entertainment zone, Zone 225, that includes a golf simulator, an Xbox and an air-hockey table.

The hotel also offers complimentary WiFi access in public areas and guest rooms, according to DoubleTree by Hilton.
