Founder of law firm new to CNY wounded in Afghanistan

SYRACUSE — The founding partner of an Albany–based law firm with a new office in Syracuse was wounded in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan last month.

Mathew Tully, founding partner of Tully Rinckey, PLLC, is a U.S. Army veteran and currently serves as a lieutenant colonel in the New York Army National Guard. He was injured Aug. 7 when a suicide bomber attacked his unit near the village of village of Pul-I-Alam in Logar Province, Afghanistan. No U.S. service members were killed in the attack, according to Tully Rinckey.

Tully received a Purple Heart on Aug. 20 as a result of the wounds he suffered. His law firm moved into its 4,200-square-foot office at 507 Plum St. in Franklin Square on the same day.

Tully is recovering from his injuries and expects to return to his leadership role at the firm in the spring. He has been deployed three times since founding Tully Rinckey in 2003.

The firm has additional locations in Arlington, Va. And Washington, D.C. and has plans to grow to 10 offices nationwide in the next five years. Tully Rinckey employs nine people in Syracuse, including four attorneys, and a total of 89 people, including 41 attorneys.

The firm specializes in military law, civil litigation, family and matrimonial law, criminal defense, trust and estates, and real estate.
