Frontier Airlines adds service to Fort Myers, Tampa at Syracuse airport

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Denver, Colorado–based Frontier Airlines this November will add flights to Fort Myers and Tampa in Florida from Syracuse Hancock International Airport.

Frontier will begin non-stop service to those Florida airports beginning Nov. 15, the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) said in a news release.

The flights to Florida will means that Frontier will have a total of six nonstop destinations from Syracuse since announcing in April that it would begin operating from Hancock Airport.

Frontier began nonstop service to Denver and Raleigh-Durham in July and will begin nonstop service to Orlando and Chicago O’Hare later this month.

SRAA notes that this news comes as traffic at the Syracuse airport is up over 12 percent from the same period last year.

As a result of the recent air service announcements, Hancock Airport will have a “record” 23 nonstop destinations and seven airlines.

“We are thrilled to see Frontier expand their footprint in the Syracuse market with the addition of Ft. Myers and Tampa,” Christina Callahan, director of the Syracuse Hancock International Airport, said. “Clearly this market has responded strongly to all of the new service, proving ‘if you build it, they will come.’ We look forward to Frontier’s continued success.”

In an email response to a BJNN inquiry, Callahan also noted that the new Frontier service does qualify for the authority’s incentive program which will include a combination of fee waivers and marketing assistance.

The airport is also due to complete an almost $50 million construction project on Oct. 31 of this year.
