Frontier, Allegiant start non-stop flights from Syracuse to Fort Myers, Florida

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Denver, Colorado–based Frontier Airlines and Las Vegas, Nevada–based Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) on Thursday launched non-stop flights from Syracuse Hancock International Airport to Fort Myers, Florida.

Frontier is also beginning direct flights from Syracuse to Tampa as well. The Allegiant flights from Syracuse will land at Punta Gorda Airport.

Each airline had announced its respective new service back in August.

Frontier flights

Frontier, which describes itself as a “low-fare carrier,” is offering direct flights to Southwest Florida International Airport and Tampa International Airport, the airline said in a Wednesday news release.

The flights to Florida will means that Frontier will have a total of six nonstop destinations from Syracuse since announcing in April that it would begin operating from Hancock Airport.

The new flights join Frontier’s existing service from Syracuse to Orlando and summer seasonal service to Chicago, Denver, and Raleigh.

Officials observed the occasion with a celebration at the Frontier ticket counter.

“We are excited to celebrate the launch of Frontier’s newest destinations from Syracuse and for their continued partnership with the airport authority,” Christina Callahan CM, executive director of Syracuse Hancock International Airport, said in the release. “With the addition of Fort Myers and Tampa, our customers now have even more affordable options to Florida.”

In an email response to a BJNN inquiry when the flights were first announced in August, Callahan also noted that the new Frontier service does qualify for the authority’s incentive program which will includes a combination of fee waivers and marketing assistance.

To mark the start of its new service to Fort Myers and Tampa, Frontier is offering one-way fares “as low as” $59, under certain conditions. Fares must be purchased by 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Friday for non-stop travel. Travel is valid through February 13, 2019.

The new seasonal Allegiant flights operate twice weekly between Punta Gorda Airport and Syracuse Hancock International Airport.

With the addition of Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Allegiant offers nonstop service to seven destinations from Syracuse. They include Nashville, Tennessee; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and four cities in Florida that include Fort Lauderdale; Orlando / Sanford; and Tampa / St. Petersburg. It’s also offering service to Sarasota / Bradenton, beginning April 3, 2019.

Allegiant’s service to Punta Gorda “is eligible for the [Syracuse Regional Airport Authority’s] incentive program, which includes a combination of fee waivers and marketing assistance,” Callahan told BJNN in an Aug. 21 email when the service was first announced.

Allegiant is offering one-way fares on the new route to Fort Myers / Punta Gorda for “as low as” $79. Seats and dates are limited and fares are not available on all flights. Flights must be purchased by Friday for travel by Feb. 28, 2019.
