BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Guthrie Clinic on Thursday announced a major nurse-recruitment campaign for Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital (Lourdes Hospital) in Binghamton.
As of Jan. 24 — and for a period of 90 days — Guthrie is offering a $50,000 sign-on bonus to new, “but experienced,” full-time direct care registered nurses (RN) for Lourdes Hospital in “select, high-need areas.”
Guthrie says it learned during the pandemic that “market-competitive compensation strategies are key” to maintaining adequate staffing with permanent, full-time nurses in favor of travelling agency staff.
“At Guthrie, we recognize the importance of providing high-quality care to our patients in the Binghamton market and we understand the necessity of strengthening the Lourdes nursing team with permanent Lourdes nurses,” Debra Raupers, EVP, chief nurse executive at the Guthrie Clinic, said in the announcement. “This initiative not only reflects our commitment to our patients, but also our commitment to being the best place to work and build a career.”
Along with the $50,000 sign-on bonus for targeted Lourdes RN positions, Guthrie will continue to offer up to a $25,000 sign-on bonus for other experienced RNs in other areas.
Additionally, Guthrie is doubling — to $20,000 from $10,000 — the referral bonus for caregivers who refer nurses to Lourdes in the identified areas. Guthrie sees that move as a “thank you for helping to grow the team at Lourdes.”
The Guthrie Clinic in June 2023 entered into an agreement to acquire Lourdes Hospital,its locations, and related physician practices.
Sayre, Pennsylvania–based Guthrie reached the agreement with St. Louis, Missouri–based Ascension, per Guthrie’s announcement. Lourdes Hospital is located at 169 Riverside Drive in Binghamton.
