Hamilton College awarded grant funding for campus arts and technology projects

CLINTON, N.Y. — Hamilton College will use a grant of nearly $500,000 to pay for projects related to technology and the arts.

The Chevy Chase, Maryland–based Sherman Fairchild Foundation Inc. has awarded the school more than $493,000 for the four-year project. The money will pay for new equipment, technology, and professional development for “curricular and co-curricular digital experiences in the arts,” the college said in a news release.

The money will also target a new technologist to support creative development and advisory support for faculty and students.

The arts and technology project emerged from a two-year planning process focused on student learning at Hamilton. It includes two priorities that the school is calling “Digital Hamilton” and “Experiential Hamilton,” per its release. With “Digital Hamilton,” the college wants to change the way instructors teach, students learn, and officials operate the college using “digitally intensive courses and emerging digital technologies.”

With “Experiential Hamilton,” the school says it wants to provide “direct, hands-on experiences to prepare students for fulfilling lives and careers.”

“This grant will continue to put digital technologies at the forefront of students’ education, ensuring their readiness for successful careers after graduation,” David Wippman, president of Hamilton College, said.
