Hancock Estabrook elects Murphy as managing partner, replacing Callahan

Timothy Murphy

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse law firm Hancock Estabrook says attorney Timothy Murphy has been elected as the firm’s managing partner.

He has previously served as the firm’s business-development partner, hiring partner, and as a member of its executive committee, the law firm said in a news release.

Murphy replaces Janet Callahan in the managing-partner role, and Callahan remains a partner with the firm, Renee Benda, marketing director for Hancock Estabrook, said in an email reply to a BJNN inquiry. Callahan had served as the firm’s managing partner since 2010.

Murphy, who joined the firm in 1989, represents “major” corporations, manufacturers, banks, higher-education institutions, municipalities, retailers and individuals in litigation matters, the firm said. Murphy is also regularly retained to serve as a mediator in litigated cases.

Murphy grew up in Syracuse and is a second-generation lawyer with “strong connections to the Central New York community,” according to the news release.

Murphy is a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law and Le Moyne College.
