Haylor, Freyer & Coon names Rayo president

SALINA, N.Y. — Haylor, Freyer & Coon, Inc. announced that Robert J. Rayo was named president of the insurance agency at its Oct. 13 annual employee-owner shareholders meeting.

Rayo joined Haylor, Freyer & Coon (HF&C) in 1987 and focused his attention on large commercial clients in the transportation and construction industries, quickly building the construction division into a key niche at HF&C, the agency said in a news release.

Rayo joined the firm’s board of directors in 2003 and became the director of commercial & surety insurance in 2014. In 2016, Rayo was also named director for the group benefit division. 

As a principal owner, he is also charged with further development of global business opportunities through the Assurex Global alliance, in which HF&C participates. 

“Robert is a strategic leader for our entrepreneurial and service oriented employees. His continued development of the sales and operation functions for our agency is an opportunity for extraordinary future growth for HF&C,” Jim Freyer, CEO of the agency, said in the release.

Rayo is a graduate of Florida International University, and was awarded the designation of construction risk insurance specialist (CRIS) in 2012. 

HF&C started in 1928 with a staff of three people. Today, the insurance agency has six offices with more than 200 employees and ranks among the top 100 largest agencies in the U.S., the release stated. 

HF&C is headquartered just north of Syracuse (town of Salina). Its other offices are located in Johnson City, Ithaca, Rochester, Watertown, and Utica.
