The Health Foundation for Western and Central New York has tagged four organizations in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley for $50,000 grants, it said today.
The grants are designated for projects attempting to connect women to health care, boost existing health-care services, and plug service gaps in what the foundation calls “hot spot” neighborhoods. It defines “hot spot” neighborhoods as areas with elevated rates of high-risk pregnancies, low birth weights, and infant deaths.
Organizations tabbed for the grants are the Center for Court Innovation in Syracuse, the Family Nurturing Center in Utica, Herkimer County Public Health Nursing Services, and Rome Memorial Hospital.
They will receive the grants under the health foundation’s maternal and child health initiative. That initiative aims to boost health and health care for children up to 1 year old and for women of child-bearing age who are living in poverty.
The Health Foundation for Western and Central New York is a private, independent foundation headquartered in Buffalo. It also has a Syracuse office in suite 250 at 431 E. Fayette St. The foundation works to improve health and health care for Western and Central New York residents.
