Coordinating the SOS team at Oswego Health is I. MICHAEL VELLA, M.D., a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement surgery, sports medicine, and fracture care. He earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical Center and fulfilled his orthopedic residency training at Rhode Island Hospital. Vella completed his fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

Also providing care from SOS will be NAVEN DUGGAL, M.D., a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle problems, as well as the correction of deformities involving the foot, ankle, and knee. Prior to joining SOS, Duggal was the chief of the orthopedic foot and ankle service at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He completed his orthopedic residency training at the University of Western Ontario, which is part of the London Health Sciences Centre, located in Canada, and completed two orthopedic fellowship trainings at the Sydney Orthopedic Arthritis & Sports Medicine, in Sydney, Australia, and at the University of Toronto, St. Michaels Hospital.

NATHAN EVERDING, M.D. is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of upper extremity injuries, arthritis, tendinopathies, rotator cuff disorders, and nerve compression syndromes. He earned his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency training at Boston University’s Medical Center.

SETH GREENKY, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in adult reconstruction, including total joint replacement, sports injuries, and fracture care. He has a medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse and his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.

J. ALAN LEMLEY, M.D. specializes in surgery of the hand and wrist. He earned his medical degree at Upstate Medical University, and his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College. Lemley completed his surgical internship and wrist and hand pain residency at the West Virginia University Department of Orthopedics.

FREDERICK LEMLEY, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle injuries. He received his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical Center. Lemley completed his residency training at West Virginia University, Morgantown and his orthopedic fellowship at the Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Center, Columbus, Ohio. He is one of only two fellowship-trained foot and ankle orthopedic specialists in the Syracuse area.

BRADLEY RAPHAEL, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic and ligament reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle. He is a team physician for Syracuse University. Raphael is a graduate of Yale University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at Hospital for Special Surgery at Cornell-Weill Medical School in New York City. He has also completed a sports-medicine fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

IRVING RAPHAEL, M.D. is a board-certified, orthopedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic and ligament reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle. He has served as the head team physician for Syracuse University for more than 20 years, along with numerous area high schools. Raphael is a graduate of Yale University Medical School in New Haven, Conn., and completed his orthopedic residency training at Upstate Medical Center.

L. RYAN SMART, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, who is extensively trained in treating adult and pediatric sports injuries, including treatment and surgical repair of injuries of the shoulder, knee, hip, and elbow. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School and his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University.

 

ST. JOSEPH’S HEALTH
St. Joseph’s Health psychiatrists ARCHANA KATHPAL, M.D. and TARUN KUMAR, M.D. have joined St. Joseph’s Health’s Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP).

Kathpal earned her doctorate in medicine from Government Medical College, Patiala, India, and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona. She completed her residency in adult psychiatry at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine – Elmhurst Hospital and completed fellowships in child/adolescent psychiatry and forensic psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse and Rutgers University’s Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, respectively. Prior to joining St. Joseph’s Health, Kathpal worked as a psychiatrist at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.

Kumar earned his doctorate in medicine from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore (Manipal University) in India. He completed his adult psychiatry residency at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine – Elmhurst Hospital and a fellowship in child/adolescent psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. He also completed a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at Rutgers University’s Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Prior to joining St. Joseph’s Health, Kumar worked as a psychiatrist providing services at Carthage Behavioral Health and Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown. He is currently working as the medical director at Behavioral Health & Wellness Center (an entity of Transitional Living Services) in Lowville. In addition to other research projects, Kumar contributed to the development of substance abuse guidelines, which are now being used as the University Correctional Healthcare Guideline for Substance Use Disorder Treatment in New Jersey Department of Corrections.
