HERKIMER, N.Y. — Herkimer County HealthNet announced it has appointed Dr. Thomas C. Curnow as executive director.

He has more than 30 years of administrative experience in operations management, regulatory compliance, and program development in the nonprofit sector, and more than two decades of experience as a faculty member in higher education in various areas of health.

Herkimer County HealthNet, which started in 1990, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation under New York State law, according to its website. It operates as a New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Rural Health Network. NYSDOH and charitable foundations provide it with grant funding.

“We are grateful that Herkimer County HealthNet’s new Executive Director has a wealth of knowledge and experience in various areas of health and human services that will prove to be beneficial to Herkimer County HealthNet,” Kate Reese, Herkimer County HealthNet’s board chair, said in a news release. “We know Tom to be strategic and proactive with community leaders and are confident that HealthNet’s services and programs will grow and continue to be a tremendous success under his leadership.”  

Curnow has a doctorate degree in education from Syracuse University. His past jobs include serving as chief operations officer for Cerebral Palsy of Westchester County as well as in leadership positions with other nonprofit organizations.

In the news release, Herkimer County HealthNet’s board of directors and staff expressed their “gratitude” to Adam Hutchinson for his service as executive director. He has accepted a job at Herkimer BOCES. The board also thanked Phyllis Spinner, who served as interim executive director of Herkimer County HealthNet through the end of 2015.
