HERKIMER, N.Y. — Herkimer County HealthNet has received a $6,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties and the Wesley and Marion Small Fund.
HealthNet will use the funds toward the initial construction of a community garden this summer in the village of Frankfort.
“We are thrilled to help construct the first community garden in the village of Frankfort and believe it will be an amazing source of nutrition, education, and wellness for all,” Herkimer County HealthNet Executive Director Elyse Enea said in a release.
The garden will offer hands-on learning opportunities while providing community members the space, education, and skills related to sustainable gardening practices and land stewardship.
Frankfort Mayor Richard D. Adams, Jr. thanked the Community Foundation and Herkimer County HealthNet for the funding and assistance with the project. “It is through appreciable funding opportunities like this that we have the ability to accomplish such great community-oriented projects that not only teach people to work together but it also teaches lifelong skills that team members are able to carry to their own homes and pass along to their families.”
Herkimer County HealthNet says its mission is to improve the health and well-being of individuals who live, work, play, and learn in Herkimer County.
