Herkimer County woman arrested for stealing more than $50K from former employer

GERMAN FLATTS, N.Y. — A Herkimer County woman has been arrested by the New York State Police for stealing more than $50,000 from the trucking company for which she used to work.

The NYS Police arrested Debra M. Claus, age 51 from Salisbury Center, for 2nd degree grand larceny, a class C felony.

 Claus is accused of taking in excess of $50,000 from her employer, Peter Smith Trucking. It’s alleged that Claus, who was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for the company, cashed business checks and deposited them into her personal account, according to a NYS Police news release.

Claus was arraigned in the town of German Flatts Court and remanded to the Herkimer County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. She is scheduled to reappear in court at a later date. The investigation is continuing, the release stated.
