Syracuse University women’s basketball head coach Quentin Hillsman picked up the 230th victory of his career Thursday night to become the program’s winningest head coach.
Syracuse (11-5) won 88-62 at Clemson.
The victory took Hillsman past Barb Jacobs (229 wins) on the all-time Orange women wins’ list.
“I don’t know what to say. It’s not something you really think about as you’re coaching. Being the all-time anything, usually you’re not there long enough to get it. I am very grateful and humbled. It’s great players, great staffs, great support from administration,” Hillsman said in a Syracuse University news release.
Hillsman, in his 11th season as head coach at Syracuse, has posted a 230-121 record (65.5 percent winning percentage).
He has taken the Orange women’s basketball program to heights it had previously never reached.
In his first 10 seasons at the helm, Hillsman led Syracuse to nine postseason appearances, including five trips to the NCAA Tournament. The highlight was last season’s improbable run by the Orange to the women’s national championship game. During that tournament, the Syracuse women’s team advanced to its first Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four, and national final in program history.
