Honeywell to cut 41 jobs in Skaneateles

SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y. — Honeywell Scanning and Mobility will lay off 41 employees between July 1 and Dec. 31 at its plant, located at 700 Visions Drive in Skaneateles Falls.

Mark Hamel, a spokesperson for Honeywell, says the jobs — primarily engineering and supply chain positions — are being moved to other Honeywell facilities in the U.S. in order to improve operational efficiency. He declined to name the facilities. Honeywell has plants in New Jersey, South Carolina, Georgia, and Washington state.

“It’s just more efficient for us to do some of this work in a place where more of that work is being done, rather than having it spread out,” Hamel says. Not all engineering and supply chain positions at the facility are being moved.

Those employees whose jobs are being moved are eligible to reapply for them, says Hamel, adding that the firm encourages them to do so. He could not say whether those who reapply are guaranteed to have the positions back that they previously held before being laid off.

Honeywell disclosed the layoffs in an April 23 notice required by the U.S. Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

Hamel declined to disclose how many employees remain at Honeywell’s Skaneateles Falls plant, citing company policy.
