Innovare Advancement Center rolls out quantum workshop

ROME, N.Y. — The Innovare Advancement Center at Griffiss Business and Technology Park is hosting the fourth annual Quantum Information Science Workshop (Q4I), an initiative to foster connectivity between government, academic, and industry collaborators in the field of quantum innovation.

The event takes place over the next three days (July 12-14).

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research are hosting the workshop at the Griffiss Institute’s Innovare Advancement Center in partnership with New York State Technology Enterprise Corporation (NYSTEC) and SUNY.

Event participants will hear from thought leaders, top-tier researchers, industry executives, higher education leaders, and students as they showcase different pathways to engage in quantum information science.

“We are so pleased to once again welcome trailblazers in the quantum community to the annual Q4I workshop where they will learn, collaborate, and network with fellow experts about innovations in the field,” Dr. Michael Hayduk, deputy director of the AFRL Information Directorate, said in a news release. “The Air Force continuously supports this workshop because it is an efficient and effective platform on which to build our nation’s quantum capacity, as part of a global initiative to build an open ecosystem of government, academic, and industry collaborations.”

This year’s program features Dr. Jungsang Kim, professor of electrical and computer engineering, physics, and computer science at Duke University, and Dr. Wojciech Kozlowski, quantum network engineer at QuTech, as keynote speakers.

Attendees also get to experience technical breakout sessions that focus on quantum networking and computing with industry leaders from NASA, IBM, Google, Rigetti, Honeywell, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Cornell University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Delft University of Technology, and more. Workshop topics range from benchmarking and error mitigation to machine learning and chemical applications.

Researchers have the opportunity to present their work during poster sessions and participants can ask questions directly of Department of Defense officials. Participants will also learn how and when to collaborate with the ARFL on their work.
