Ithaca named third-best city in U.S. for finding a job

Ithaca is one of the best cities in the country in which to find a job, according to a new list from a staffing firm.

Adecco Staffing US, headquartered in Melville, N.Y., named Ithaca the third-best city in the country for finding a job. The upstate New York city trails only Washington, D.C., which is in the list’s top spot, and Austin, Texas, which came in second.

The staffing firm based its list on internal data from its regional branches. It took into account local unemployment rates, job opportunities over the past six months, and the overall economic environment in each market.

Ithaca earned accolades for its unemployment rate of 5.9 percent and job opportunities in education, manufacturing, technology, and tourism. Employers in the city are looking for engineers, quality-control professionals, quality-assurance professionals, construction managers, technical writers, and technicians, according to Adecco Staffing US.

Other cities rounding out the list’s top 10 were Boston; Portland, Maine; Dallas; Nashville, Tenn.; Columbus, Ohio; Baltimore, and Pittsburgh.

“These cities represent places with some of the best job opportunities in the country right now,” Adecco Staffing US Senior Vice President Janette Marx said in a news release. “The variety of industries hiring and skills in demand show that there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the job climate right now — and it’s something we hope will only get better.”
