The Northern Border Regional Commission’s (NBRC) economic and infrastructure-development investment program awarded the funding, the office of U.S. Representative John Katko (R–Camillus) said in a news release issued Friday.

Citing the City of Fulton’s grant application, Katko’s office said the grant will allow Fulton to “properly” size and place over 3,800 linear feet of water and sewer mains and “update” storm-sewer lines at the former site of the Fulton Nestle facility.

Once completed, the site will include “eight new divided commercial and retail lots” that, when developed, will have the capacity to “create and support” more than 200 local jobs, Katko’s news release said.

Katko supported the application that the City of Fulton’s community-development agency submitted for the federal funding.

“As a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I recognize how important strong water infrastructure systems are for local municipalities in Central New York and across the nation,” Katko said in the news release. “I commend the City of Fulton’s community-development agency for its efforts to spur economic growth and help revitalize distressed neighborhoods by updating and replacing vital infrastructure, and I was proud to support this application for funding.”

The Concord, New Hampshire–based NBRC is a “federal-state partnership for economic and community development in northern Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. Each year, the NBRC provides federal funds for critical economic and community-development projects throughout the Northeast,” according to its website.

Congress created the NBRC in 2008, its website said.
