Kaur named medical director of hospitalist program at RMH

ROME, N.Y. — Dr. Gurinder Kaur has been named medical director of the St. Joseph’s Health Hospitalist Program at Rome Memorial Hospital (RMH).

Rome Memorial Hospital is an affiliate of St. Joseph’s Health and an affiliated clinical site of New York Medical College.

In her role as medical director, Dr. Kaur seeks opportunities to optimize the infrastructure of the health-care system to enable hospitalists, nurses, and other clinical professionals to deliver quality care, RMH said in a release.

The hospitalist team specializes in caring for the complex needs of patients when they are hospitalized. They work collaboratively to coordinate care with each patient’s primary care provider and specialists for continuity of care.

A team of eight hospitalists provide care at RMH. A physician is on-site 24 hours a day, so they can immediately respond to a change in a patient’s condition.

Since joining Rome Memorial Hospital, Dr. Kaur has been partnering with the hospital’s multi-disciplinary teams on various process-improvement projects.

“We want to make it easy for doctors and other clinicians to focus on caring for our patients,” Dr. Kaur said in the release. She draws upon her experiences from her rotations at various hospitals to fine-tune processes.

Raised in Central New York, Kaur earned her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Albany and her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica, West Indies. She completed her family medicine residency at St. Joseph’s Health in Syracuse, where she served as chief resident and worked as a hospitalist.
