Kids Oneida appoints Bulger as CEO

UTICA, N.Y. — The board of directors of Kids Oneida, Inc. announced today it has appointed Steven Bulger as executive director and CEO, a position he has held on an interim basis since Jan. 1 of this year.

The nonprofit Kids Oneida provides community-based services for families at risk in the Mohawk Valley. It generated $7.6 million in revenue in 2013, according to CNYBJ Research.

Bulger joined Kids Oneida as a family-service coordinator in August 2005. The organization credits his work in the development of the Return Home Early Project in 2008.

The nonprofit’s website describes the Return Home Early Project as a “collaborative” effort that also involved the Oneida County Department of Social Services, placement facilities, families, school districts, and community partners.

The project seeks to “identify children in placement that would benefit from intensive community-based services in their home communities as opposed to a more restrictive level of care,” the site says.

Kids Oneida later promoted Bulger to director of operations in 2010.

The board of directors is “elated” to have appointed Bulger as the new, permanent CEO, Russ Dalia, president of the Kids Oneida board, said in a news release.

“His knowledge of all facets of the organization, was without a doubt, the deciding factor in his appointment. Steve’s energetic approach will ensure our commitment to the children and families it serves for years to come,” said Dalia.

Bulger, a native of Oneida County, earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and political science from Niagara University and a master of business administration degree from the SUNY Institute of Technology in Marcy, according to the news release.
