Kinney acquires two pharmacies in Finger Lakes

Kinney Drugs, Inc. has acquired two pharmacies in the Finger Lakes area and will transition them to the Kinney brand this summer.

Kinney purchased Palmer Pharmacy, 2083 State Route 96, in Trumansburg and South Seneca Pharmacy, 7115 N. Main St., in Ovid. No financial terms were disclosed.

At the end of business Saturday, July 14, South Seneca Pharmacy will close and reopen on Monday, July 16 as Kinney Drugs. The days and hours of operation will remain the same, but the store’s layout will be changed to match the Kinney plan and Kinney services will be integrated with those currently provided by South Seneca Pharmacy. All employees will be offered a position with Kinney, the company said in a news release.

Palmer Pharmacy will close its doors at the end of business July 15 and will not reopen due to the proximity of a Kinney Drugs store in Trumansburg. All prescription patients will transfer to Kinney Drugs located at 2100 Trumansburg Rd. Employees of Palmer Pharmacy will be offered positions with Kinney, the company said.

“We are excited and look forward to serving customers from the South Seneca and Palmer pharmacies,” Kinney CEO Jim Spencer said in the release. “We are working closely with the current owner, Darren Palmer, to make this transition as seamless as possible and ensure that patients’ needs are met, while adding services that are unique to Kinney Drugs.”

Kinney offers free prescription delivery to local residents, automatic refills through the ReadyScripts program, KinneyCare discount prescription plan, and immunizations for seasonal flu and pneumonia.

Founded in 1903 by Burt Orrin Kinney, Gouverneur–based Kinney Drugs operates 93 stores in Central and Northern New York and Vermont. Kinney operates its own distribution warehouse to service its retail locations.

Kinney also operates ProAct, Inc., a full-service prescription-benefit management company; HealthDirect institutional pharmacy services; and HealthDirect mail-order pharmacy services. Kinney Drugs (www.kinneydrugs.com) is an employee-owned company.
