Kinney Drugs relocates St. Joseph’s pharmacy to larger retail space on Butternut Street

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Kinney Drugs will move its pharmacy from St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center on Union Avenue to a full-service retail store on Butternut Street.

The company will open its new store at 406 Butternut St. next Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 7 a.m., according to a news release. It will host a formal store grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 24.

Kinney Drugs’ location at St. Joseph’s was about 4,000 square feet and had just a pharmacy, according to a Kinney Drugs spokeswoman. The Butternut Street venue encompasses 11,550 square feet and will be a pharmacy and retail store. The new location will offer a larger selection of products, including over-the-counter medicines and home medical equipment, according to the news release.

“The relocation to a larger facility will now offer its customers a full retail experience along with expanded health and wellness services,” Kinney Drugs said in the release. “The new store format focuses on Kinney Drugs’ commitment to patient health and wellness while improving the customer shopping experience.”

The Butternut Street store will have a pharmacy department and a consultation room for patients. Customers can pick up and drop off prescriptions at the drive-up window. Residents will have access to a free prescription delivery and EZSync, an automated prescription-refill program that synchronizes multiple prescription refills, the company said.

The new Kinney store is located next to a new Cricket Wireless store that also is expected to open soon, according to signs on the building.

Kinney Drugs is the drug store division of KPH Healthcare Services, Inc., a pharmacy health care company. It operates 101 drug stores in Central and Northern New York and Vermont and it is headquartered in Gouverneur.
