Kionix CEO and co-founder Galvin resigns

ITHACA — Kionix, Inc., which manufactures inertial sensors used in a variety of applications, announced today the resignation of Gregory J. Galvin, the company’s CEO and a co-founder.

With the Ithaca–based company producing “record” revenues, Galvin decided “it was the right time to move to other endeavors,” Paul Bryan, executive vice president of product management and strategy, tells CNYBJ.com.

Galvin is involved the business and academic communities through his work as a trustee for Cornell University and as an entrepreneur, Bryan adds.

“We thank Greg [Galvin] for his leadership in guiding Kionix from its beginning to our position in the market today,” Tim Davis, Kionix co-founder and chief technology officer, said in a news release.

The company has appointed Nader Sadrzadeh, who has served on the Kionix board of directors, as its next president and CEO, Kionix said in the release.

Prior to joining Kionix, Sadrzadeh served as vice president and general manager of ROHM Co., Ltd., the parent company of Kionix.

ROHM, a Kyoto, Japan–based electronics supplier, acquired Kionix in 2009 as a “key” part of its overall sensors strategy, Sadrzadeh said in the release.

“We remain very excited about Kionix’s role in addressing a growing range of customer needs in this rapidly expanding market. We have a strong team and award-winning technologies, and will build upon this foundation to take Kionix to the next level of success,” Sadrzadeh said.

Kionix, which was founded in 1993, has 241 total employees, including 206 full-time workers in Central New York, according to the Manufacturers List in tomorrow’s (Oct. 25) issue of The Central New York Business Journal.
