Kionix inks agreement with major distributor

ITHACA — Kionix, Inc. of Ithaca, which manufacturers inertial sensors used in a variety of applications, added a major new distributor to its network in September.

The company signed a global distribution agreement with Digi-Key Corp. this month. Digi-Key is an Internet–based distributor of electronic components and had 2011 global sales of more than $1.5 billion.

Kionix sensors are used in the consumer electronics, automotive, industrial, and health care markets.

“Digi-Key is an important addition to our global distribution network,” Kenneth Salky, Kionix executive vice president of sales and marketing, said in a news release. “Digi-Key’s worldwide reach and reputation for customer service, logistics and design support, means that Kionix’s cutting edge products now will be available quickly and easily to more design engineers than ever before.”

Founded in 1993, Kionix became a subsidiary in 2009 of ROHM Co., Ltd., a Kyoto, Japan–based electronics supplier.
