Klein Steel Service names Zyra as president

Klein Steel Service Inc. — a Rochester–based steel-service center with a network of warehouses throughout upstate New York, including the Syracuse area — has named Todd Zyra as president.

Zyra takes over from John Batiste, a retired US Army Major General, who is now president and CEO of Buffalo Armory LLC, a company co-owned by Batiste and Joe Klein, chairman of Klein Steel. Batiste will continue his association with Klein Steel as a member of its board of advisors, according to a company news release.

Buffalo Armory, located in Buffalo, is a manufacturer of armor and high-strength steel, branded Star Armor and Star Steel, for both defense and commercial purposes.

“When we first launched Buffalo Armory, it was part of Klein Steel,” Batiste said in the release, “but, as the new company matured and the Star product was refined, it was our goal to separate the businesses. Buffalo Amory is built on the strength of Klein Steel.”

Zyra has been preparing for his new role as president of Klein Steel since joining the business as operations manager in October, 2008, the company said. Most recently, he served as its chief operating officer. Prior to joining Klein Steel, Zyra worked at several large national firms such as Cintas and Nextel, the news release stated.

Founded in 1971, Klein Steel Service says it has more than 360,000 square feet of facilities and a fully integrated distribution network that extends its reach throughout the country.
