Unemployment rates in the Syracuse area (4.9 percent) and Utica–Rome region (5.1 percent) remained unchanged in December compared to a year ago.
The jobless rate in the Watertown–Fort Drum metro area rose slightly.to 7.0 percent from 6.8 percent in the last year.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rates in the Binghamton and Ithaca regions fell in December compared to 12 months earlier. The rate in the Binghamton area fell to 5.3 percent from 5.5 percent while the jobless rate in the Ithaca region dipped to 3.4 percent from 3.5 percent.
The figures are part of the latest New York State Department of Labor data released Tuesday.
The local unemployment data isn’t seasonally adjusted, meaning the figures don’t reflect seasonal influences such as holiday hires.
The unemployment rates are calculated following procedures prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the state Labor Department said.
