PENN YAN, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance (FLTA) has selected Meghan Lawton as its new president and CEO beginning in mid-March.
Lawton brings strong ties to the region, both as a resident and as part of the tourism industry in both Wyoming and Cortland counties. She also has a strong affiliation within the statewide tourism industry as part of the New York State Tourism Industry Association.
The FLTA began its search for a new president and CEO in early 2022 as it prepared for current leader Cindy Kimble to retire at the end of March 2023. She has served as president since November 2007 and is known as a passionate ambassador for the region and the driving force behind the region being named a National Heritage Area, the alliance said in a release. Kimble will continue to serve on the National Heritage Area Committee.
“We are so excited to have Meghan Lawton join the FLTA team as our next president and CEO,” FLTA Board Chair Sue Poelvoorde said. “Her experience in the tourism industry and passion for everything Finger Lakes will continue FLTA’s legacy as the premier source for visitors to plan their Finger Lakes adventure. We look forward to working with Meghan and the FLTA staff to serve our partners and grow our marketing outreach to keep building upon the strength of the 100-plus-year-old organization.”
Founded in 1919, the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance is an association of private-sector attractions, tourism-related businesses, and county tourism offices that work together to promote the 9,000-square-mile Finger Lakes region.
