Le Moyne now offering master’s program previously available at Cazenovia College

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Le Moyne College says it is now offering a two-year, master’s degree program in clinical mental-health counseling.

It was originally offered at Cazenovia College and transitioned to Le Moyne when Cazenovia permanently closed its doors at the end of June, Le Moyne said.

The program’s move to Le Moyne is part of the college’s agreement to serve as the legacy institution for Cazenovia College.

The program begins during the upcoming fall semester and seeks to “to meet the growing nationwide demand for competent and compassionate mental-health counselors,” per a Le Moyne release.

It includes a 60-credit curriculum in which students will explore values, perceptions, cultures, techniques and interventions for prevention and treatment of a broad range of mental-health issues. They’ll also explore behaviors of clients from a variety of backgrounds and developmental stages.

“This is a perfect fit for Le Moyne’s mission of meeting an important need in today’s society in a way that respects the dignity of all individuals,” Margaret Wells, dean of Le Moyne College’s Purcell School of Professional Studies, said. “In addition to a curriculum delivered in an inclusive learning environment, students will have a first-hand clinical experience that will prepare them to become competent and caring mental health counselors while also enhancing student appreciation of the human condition.”

The program has three faculty members who were previously with Cazenovia College when it was started there. They are now Le Moyne faculty members and will “provide program continuity.”
