Le Moyne President LeMura named a visiting fellow at Syracuse University

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Le Moyne College President Linda LeMura has been named a chancellor’s distinguished visiting fellow at Syracuse University.

The appointment is for 10 weeks and will begin on Dec. 1, Le Moyne said in an online news release.

The appointment allows LeMura to study how colleges and universities in the region can “adapt and collaborate to enhance academic excellence, improve educational outcomes for underserved communities in Syracuse and Central New York, and strengthen research opportunities and economic development,” per the release.

“This appointment will provide the time I need to focus on select projects that will enhance the creative potential of the three institutions, for the mutual benefit of everyone, as well as other strategic alliances that might emerge during this focused period of study,” LeMura said.

The college’s board of trustees “unanimously approved” the appointment, Le Moyne said.

“Le Moyne College is committed to improving educational outcomes and economic development in the region,” Robert Reklaitis, chair of the Le Moyne College board of trustees, said. “Commissioning our president to work on these issues is tangible evidence of our commitment to that mission.”

Reklaitis also noted that the trustees “appreciate that the president will spend the weeks between the fall and spring semester — time often devoted to resting and recharging — to take on this important role.”

During this time, Le Moyne College Provost Joseph Marina, S.J. will serve as acting president of Le Moyne.

Following the fellowship, LeMura will work with Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud and new SUNY ESF President Joanie Mahoney to determine how to best advance this growing partnership.

“I’m grateful to Linda for her passionate commitment to this region and our shared efforts, along with SUNY ESF, in developing new and innovative approaches to meet the challenges facing higher education today,” Syverud said in a statement. “This work is a vital step in exploring how our three institutions, each with distinct yet different strengths and missions, can better utilize our resources to improve existing and identify potential new partnerships.”
