SYRACUSE — The Sustainable Enterprise Partnership at Syracuse University (SU) will launch a new boot camp program focused on environmentally friendly building practices.
Carrier Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies, is funding the effort with $35,000. Carrier has been collaborating with SEP for several years.
SEP is an initiative of SU’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management, L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and the Syracuse Center of Excellence. It provides education and research on sustainable enterprise.
The boot camp is aimed at graduate students in SEP’s program for a certificate of advanced study in sustainable enterprise (CASSE). It will prepare students for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design green associate exam, a professional credential meant for those who want to demonstrate green building expertise in nontechnical fields of practice, according to SU.
The Green Building Certification Institute created the credential.
“The CASSE program is designed to give students from a wide variety of disciplines a solid understanding of what sustainable enterprise means in general, and also specifically in the context of their particular discipline,” Elet Callahan, SEP faculty director, said in a news release. “The boot camp program is a valuable addition to our courses.”
Carrier has provided more than $175,000 to SEP since its launch in 2006.
