Litera joins United Way of the Mohawk Valley as CEO

UTICA, N.Y. — United Way of the Mohawk Valley (United Way MV) has a new CEO, according to its board of directors. Susan Litera started at the organization on Dec. 11.

“The board of directors and I look forward to working with Susan in her new role,” Matthew Nicholl, United Way MV board president, said in a press release. “Susan’s passion for helping people and the community and many years of nonprofit experience, success generating revenue, and strategic planning make her a great fit for this important leadership role in the community.”

An experienced nonprofit executive who has worked in the field for 25 years, Litera specializes in relationship building, stewardship of donors, and cultivation of staff, per the release. She began her career as a journalist, finding her niche in the nonprofit sector, cultivating donors for major gifts, and starting a nonprofit to support people in crisis.

“Partnering with local agencies and stakeholders seeking to improve our community is my ultimate goal,” Litera said. “I look forward to working with United Way MV’s team and collaborating with others who share this common vision to propel our community.”

Litera’s plans for the next several months include connecting with the organization’s partners and supporters while focusing on revenue growth and leading the nonprofit’s strategic-planning process.

Founded in 1921, United Way of the Mohawk Valley says it helps individuals and families by bringing people and organizations together to solve the community’s challenges. Dozens of programs rely on United Way MV funding each year. Specifically, the organization says it addresses community issues in the areas of health, education, and financial stability.
