LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — Little Falls Hospital in Herkimer County has named Dr. Carlton Rule as the facility’s new medical director.
Rule began his appointment on April 1, per a hospital news release.
Little Falls Hospital, an affiliate of Bassett Healthcare Network, is an inpatient 25-bed acute-care hospital. It describes itself as “Herkimer County’s only provider of acute inpatient medical care, emergency care, short-term inpatient rehabilitation, and many other diagnostic and therapeutic services.”
Rule has been with the Bassett Healthcare Network since 2011, also serving as medical director at the Bassett Herkimer Health Center. Rule is board certified in family medicine.
As medical director at Little Falls Hospital, Rule is responsible for communicating and “ensuring compliance” with the requirements set forth by the New York State Department of Health for the medical staff.
He’s also responsible for compliance with the Joint Commission standards relating to medical staff and medical-staff leadership as well as the Little Falls Hospital bylaws, rules, and regulations, along with policies and procedures. The nonprofit Joint Commission — headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois — “accredits and certifies nearly 21,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States,” per its website.
Rule will also focus on medical staff quality-improvement programs, overseeing the medical-staff credentialing processes, and other medical/administrative duties as assigned, per the release.
