Local unemployment rates in September were down — but not by much — from August’s rates, according to the state Department of Labor.
In the Binghamton area, the unemployment rate dropped to 8.5 percent, down from 8.9 percent in August, but up from 8.3 percent a year ago.
In Syracuse, the rate dropped to 8.4 percent, down from 8.6 percent in August, but up from 8.1 percent in September 2011.
In the Utica-Rome region, the rate dropped to 8 percent, down from 8.2 percent in August, but up from 7.8 percent a year ago.
The state’s unemployment rate was 8.9 percent in September, down from 9.1 percent in August, and up from 8.3 percent in September 2011.
The nation’s unemployment rate was 7.8 percent in September, down from 8.1 percent in August, and 9 percent in September 2011.
