Lockheed Martin’s Salina plant wins $184M contract for electronic warfare system

SALINA, N.Y. — The U.S. Navy recently awarded Lockheed Martin Corp.’s (NYSE: LMT) Rotary and Mission Systems unit in Salina a $184.1 million contract to produce electronic warfare systems to protect Navy vessels from anti-ship missiles.

The Navy exercised an option to a previously awarded contract for full-rate production of Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP) Block 2 subsystems, the U.S. Defense Department announced on Dec. 21.

SEWIP is an “evolutionary acquisition and incremental development program” to upgrade the existing electronic warfare system, according to a  Defense Department news release. SEWIP Block 2 will expand upon the receiver/antenna group necessary to stay current with threats and boost system integration.
