SALINA, N.Y. — Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) would like to fill more than 100 open positions at its upstate New York facilities in the next three to six months.

A lot of the openings will require experience, says Matt Wilkowski, systems engineering senior manager at Lockheed Martin’s Salina plant. The majority of the open jobs are part of the Salina and Owego manufacturing facilities, he notes.

“The urgency from a timeline point of view is to meet the ongoing needs that we see year to year plus the new work that we have coming in,” adds Wilkowski, who spoke with CNYBJ on Sept. 7.

Lockheed Martin is a Bethesda, Maryland–based defense contractor. Its plants in Salina and Owego are both part of the firm’s rotary and mission systems (RMS) business area. The firm also has operations near Niagara Falls as well.

Even though the firm is looking primarily for experienced workers, it will also hire entry-level employees, such as recent college graduates.

Lockheed Martin is looking for systems engineers, mechanical engineers, people with backgrounds in electrical and computer engineering and computer science, along with some needs on the manufacturing side as well, such as testers, technicians, and other supervisory roles, according to Wilkowski.

The positions are full time, but Wilkowski says Lockheed Martin can offer “flexibility” with part-time roles, depending on a job candidate’s personal need.

When asked if the defense contractor has filled any of the openings as of Sept. 7, he said that the process is still ongoing.

For those interested in pursuing a position with Lockheed Martin, they can visit: lockheedmartin.com/nys, which then goes to a page where the user can click on a specific location. The same page also has a link to sign up for a virtual hiring event on Sept. 15.

“That’s another opportunity that people will be able to have to try to listen in on a little more detail on the opportunities and … virtually reach out that way,” says Wilkowski.

Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 114,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
