Mackenzie Hughes elects Neil J. Smith as new partner

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Mackenzie Hughes LLP announced it has elected Neil J. Smith to the law firm’s partnership. 

Smith has been a member of the Syracuse–based firm’s Business Department since 2005. His area of focus includes bankruptcy, where he represents businesses in bankruptcy proceedings and counsels on debt reorganizations and workouts, according to a Mackenzie Hughes news release. Smith also represents defendants in preferential transfer litigation. He has recently been elected president of the Central New York Bankruptcy Bar Association.

Smith also has considerable experience counseling financial institutions on regulatory, lending, operational, and governance issues, the release stated.

After earning a bachelor’s degree public communications in 2002 from Syracuse University, Smith received his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law in 2005. He is also a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy.

Mackenzie Hughes ranked as the 7th largest law firm in Central New York, with 34 CNY attorneys, according to the 2015 Book of Lists produced by the Business Journal News Network.
