Madison County man charged with welfare fraud of $3,000

LENOX, N.Y. — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced that its investigators on Tuesday arrested Edward A. Riggall, age 50, of Eaton and charged him with 3rd degree welfare fraud and 3rd degree grand larceny, both felonies.

Sheriff’s Office investigators allege that Riggall, who was collecting public assistance, committed a fraudulent welfare act when he failed to report income to the Madison County Department of Social Services. As a result, he received $3,026 in benefits between June 1, 2018 and Nov. 30, 2018 that he was not eligible for, according to a Madison County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Riggall was arraigned at the Town of Lenox Court, where he was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear at court on a later date to answer the charges. The release did not specify the date.
