Madison County Sheriff makes arrest in diner burglary

LENOX, N.Y. — The Madison County Sheriffs Office has made an arrest in connection with a Jan. 11 burglary at Flos Diner in the town of Lenox.

Deputies arrested the suspect, David R. Degrasse, 57, of West Warwick, Rhode Island, on Feb. 5 and charged him with third-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree grand larceny, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal trespass, possession of burglar tools, petit larceny, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, per the sheriffs office.

Deputies were dispatched to Flos, located at 3223 State Route 31, at about 6:45 a.m. on Jan. 11 for a burglary complaint. The individual had forced entry into the building, cut open an ATM machine, and stole the contents. Several images of the burglar were obtained from surrounding buildings during the investigation and shared with lawenforcement partners.

The FBI contacted the Madison County Sheriffs Office to provide the identity of a suspect who matched the description of the burglar. This suspect was also sought for similar crimes across several states.

Degrasse was arraigned in the Town of Lenox Court and released to the custody of the Putnam County Jail, where he is being held on unrelated charges.

Along with the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit also assisted in the investigation.
