Marriott Downtown Syracuse to hold job fair for more than 200 openings

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Marriott Downtown Syracuse, the new name of the former Hotel Syracuse, has scheduled a job fair to fill more than 200 openings at the facility.

The hotel is scheduled to reopen under the new name next spring.

Fairfax, Virginia–based Crescent Hotels & Resorts, which will operate the hotel, will host the event at the Oncenter on Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Marriott Downtown Syracuse said in a news release issued Tuesday.

Cresent is seeking to fill jobs ranging from entry level to management.

“This project is very important to Syracuse on so many levels,” Ed Riley, managing member of Hotel Syracuse Restoration, said in the release. “The historic hotel will once again regain its position as the premier hotel in Syracuse area and we will significantly impact the hospitality job market and local economy with the creation of new career opportunities.”

Crescent is partnering with the State University of New York’s Education Opportunity Center (SUNY-EOC) to find job candidates and provide training.

SUNY-EOC will provide a training program for individuals interested in applying for a position at Marriott Downtown Syracuse.

The program provides 50 to 70 hours of training modules of “contextualized education,” job-readiness skill development, and assessments to prepare those with “no prior hospitality experience.”

People with “sufficient knowledge in a specific area” will be able to “skip” the modules portion of the training procedure, according to the news release.

Those interested in the job fair can register online at: https://labor.ny.gov/secure/workforce/recruitment-event-syracuse/.
