SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Preservation League of New York State recently recognized the Marriott Syracuse Downtown, the former Hotel Syracuse, with an excellence in historic preservation award.
The Preservation League recognized the renovation work on the hotel during a ceremony held May 10 in New York City, the Marriott Syracuse Downtown said in a news release issued Thursday.
The hotel was one of eight New York State historic preservation projects recognized at the event.
Ed Riley, owner of Marriott Syracuse Downtown, attended the awards ceremony, which was held at the New York Yacht Club.
The Preservation League honored the hotel’s two-year, $76 million restoration for “retaining, promoting and reusing New York State’s irreplaceable architectural heritage.” The organization also took into consideration the hotel’s creation of new jobs, promotion of tourism, and “role in the revitalization of downtown Syracuse,” per the release.
The Albany–based Preservation League of New York State is supported “in part” by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, according to its website.
