MedTech president Crawford to depart the organization on May 26

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Jessica Crawford, president of MedTech, has told members in an email message that she plans to leave the organization May 26 as she “will be returning to industry.” She didn’t name the new organization or company she is joining.

Crawford came aboard MedTech in October 2012. It’s a nonprofit trade association representing New York’s bioscience and medical-technology (bio/med) industry that is headquartered at the Syracuse Technology Garden and currently has 100 members.

In the email issued late Friday afternoon, Crawford said it’s a “bittersweet” decision to leave an organization “whose growth has catapulted under an expanded statewide vision.”

She attributed MedTech’s “success” to a “collective commitment,” including contributions from membership and staff.

In the last five years, the association’s membership has grown 30 percent and it introduced “new and improved” statewide programming; a new industry publication, and an industry cost-savings purchasing consortium.

MedTech’s advocacy efforts also “culminated this year” in the state’s $620 million investment to grow a new, life-sciences research cluster in New York, Crawford contended.

MedTech has started a search for Crawford’s successor. In the meantime, the association will continue to operate under the direction of its board of directors and staff, per the email.
