ENDICOTT, N.Y. — Mercy House of the Southern Tier will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. on Sept. 30 at 212 North McKinley Avenue to celebrate the start of its $2 million expansion project, the organization announced.
The expansion will provide more space to care for people with terminal illnesses and support their families.
Mercy House also launched an operations support fund with the initial goal of raising $600,000. Donations will also help offset increases in operational expenses that will come with the expansion.
“We are deeply grateful for the support we have already received from our community,” Mercy House Executive Director Linda Cerra said in the release. “This expansion is vital to our mission of providing a peaceful and compassionate environment for our residents. We invite everyone to join us in making this vision a reality by contributing to our donor campaign.”
Mercy House opened its location in Endicott in 2016 and has cared for more than 1,230 residents. Less than a decade later, it added six new rooms equipped with private bathrooms, and in 2023, the nonprofit expanded its kitchen to better serve residents.
To date, Mercy House has received $1,013,243 in grant funding for the project with more grants and pledged private donations expected. The community donor campaign’s goal is to provide for the rest of the cost of the expansion.
