Microdrones adds United Kingdom firm as distributor

Microdrones announced it has added Drone Pilot Academy of the United Kingdom as a distributor of drone-surveying equipment throughout the UK and Ireland.

Microdrones is a Germany–based firm with an office at Griffiss International Airport in Rome.

Besides its role as a distributor, Drone Pilot Academy is also a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)-accredited training provider and commercial drone retailer since 2017. The CAA regulates civil aviation in the UK.

As a Microdrones distributor, Drone Pilot Academy will offer Microdrones Integrated Systems that include material a commercial user needs to get started using drones for surveying and mapping. The material includes an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or what’s also known as a drone; the sensors; and the software and hardware.

In addition, the Microdrones as a Service (mdaaS) sales model will allow Drone Pilot Academy to “broaden” the drone-surveying market with “convenient” hardware and software packages at monthly payment and rental options, Microdrones said.

As its name implies, Drone Pilot Academy offers pilot, surveying, and mapping-training courses to help customers with their drone-surveying equipment.

“Having a training academy means not only can we supply the drone but we can get them the appropriate qualifications and exemptions to integrate and operate the microdrones fleet into their business model,” Ben Evans, business development manager at Drone Pilot Academy, said in a release. “We’re ready, willing and able to conduct demos throughout the UK at a location of convenience for prospective clients.”

James Ixer, managing director of Drone Pilot Academy, said the organization first “took notice” of Microdrones during a CAA training course for one of its customers, Microdrones said.
