Mohawk Valley EDGE selects Canastota firm for site-grading work at site of future Cree facility

JBS Dirt Inc. will handle the work before crews build the approximately $1 billion wafer fabrication facility, Mohawk Valley EDGE said in an email news release.

Cree, Inc., a Durham, North Carolina–based semiconductor company, is building a silicon carbide wafer fabrication facility through a public-private partnership. It involves Mohawk Valley EDGE subleasing the facility to Cree under a 49-year lease, per a Sept. 23 news release on the project from the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The project is expected to generate more than 600 full-time technician and engineering jobs.

“The initial grading work is scheduled to begin shortly and will create a level site to be turned over to Cree to begin construction once their team is selected,” Steven DiMeo, president of Mohawk Valley EDGE, said in the news release. “The site grading project is part of the ongoing infrastructure work that has been spearheaded by EDGE and our partners at New York State and Oneida County and we are excited to see the Cree Mohawk Valley Fab take another step closer to completion.”
