Most CNY region unemployment rates declined in November compared to a year ago

Unemployment rates in the Syracuse, Utica–Rome, Binghamton, and Ithaca regions fell in November compared to 12 months earlier.

At the same time, the jobless rate in the Watertown–Fort Drum metro area remained unchanged, year-over-year.

The figures are part of the latest monthly New York State Department of Labor data released Tuesday.

The unemployment rate in the Binghamton region dipped to 5.0 percent in November from 5.3 percent a year ago, according to figures from the state Labor Department.

The jobless rate in the Ithaca area was 3.4 percent in November, down from the 3.7 figure posted in November 2015.

The local-unemployment data isn’t seasonally adjusted, meaning the figures don’t reflect seasonal influences such as holiday hires.

The unemployment rates are calculated following procedures prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the state Labor Department said.
