SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) will be reopening to the public for weekends only on Aug. 1 following its coronavirus closure.

The MOST will also be open every weekday for summer day camps running until Aug. 21 with pre-registration, the nonprofit said in a news release.

The museum plans to fully reopen at the end of summer with new programs and exhibits for the fall.

“For health and safety purposes,” the MOST will be temporarily closing the IMAX and planetarium, the Science Playhouse, and BUILD. The Science Playhouse will be available by reservations only.

New programs and exhibits include pop-up labs and demonstration areas for “fun science experiments” along with a new pandemic-related learning kiosk in the Life Sciences exhibit, the MOST said.

The museum will also include a guided path for visitors to follow that helps to condense traffic and “emphasize” safe distancing while enjoying the exhibits.

In addition, the MOST says it’ll have hand-sanitation stations and wipe-down stops located throughout the museum; exhibits and restrooms will be cleaned multiple times a day “with enhanced sanitation protocols;” and MOST staff will be wearing masks and screened daily.

“We are taking every step possible to create a safe and fun environment for our guests,” Lauren Kochian, president of the MOST, said. “We recognize the need for in-person learning after months of distance learning, so we are excited to introduce a new MOST with improved exhibits and increased safety protocols.”
